My "project" wasn't really a project at all. I just helped Nancy out with her work which was fun but it wasn't really a project. I wish I was able to do my original project but it was very difficult and it didn't benefit the company. I don't know what I would have done differently but I probably would have had a better "project" if I didn't have to switch in the middle of Internship. What stood out to me though was the fact that I learned so much more about bridges and what they're made of.

I have a few points of advice for future interns,
Don't wait until you have to have an internship to try and find one. Don't take a yes as a definite yes until you do your site visit there. Other than that you may need to develop/advance your communication skills because that is one of the core things that you need for being successful at your job. Yes, Nancy and I were talking about colleges and she gave me some schools that are good for engineering: Long Beach, Cal Poly, and some other ones that I can't recall right now. I am glad we had that talk because I don't know much about colleges and I have to go to one in about a year and a half.
I am very thankful for Nancy and the experience that she has given me here at Caltrans. I have learned a lot about Civil Engineering and what it is going to take to become an engineer. I haven't really talked to anyone else at my internship because everyone is really busy with work.

This prompt is kind of difficult to answer but if I was to acquire one quality that these people have is how smart they are. I learned that I will need to advance my math skills even more if I want to become an engineer and that there is still a lot more I don't know.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1MJH6fBvlmhBGsSPUcEWilTZf3FxuausgTorcoo5A0RM/edit#slide=id.g1bea923257_0_53 I am going to be relying on mostly memory for my presentation but I have practiced my presentation a few times so I feel like I am prepared.
I feel that I developed appreciations for the things I am given in life. I am given a lot of opportunities such as this internship and I am very grateful because I know that there are kids that can't even get a proper education. My contribution to this company was helping Nancy make sure that the Genesee bridge's false work was 100% complete according to the plans, this made sure that the contractors didn't mess anything up and eventually lead to a very dangerous situation. My day to day responsibilities weren't much besides helping Nancy whenever she needs me to and getting my own work done while Nancy is doing hers. I learned that if you do not communicate with your mentor then you won't get as much out of your internship. Your mentor doesn't know what you need or want to do so communicating will help the both of you have a successful internship. Observing Nancy and how she talks to her workmates it's very interesting because usually when something is done wrong its because of a miscommunication or lack there of.
Well I was working on another project for the first week and a half until the site visit where Lucas said that I needed to do a project that benefits the company. So we thought of another project and the idea we came up with wasn't really a project but more me helping Nancy correlate the bridge plans to the actual bridge. I made a google slide presentation showing the before and after of the pour on the Geneesee bridge that shows the inside of the bridge and how it looks on the plans. I learned that I should probably think things through before I follow through with what ever it is.
