There is a lot more independent work here than at school, it is rare that people talk to each other unless it is project related. I find myself taking a more breaks than I do at school as well. I feel that this internship will greatly influence what I want to do later in life because I know that I will not be a Civil Engineer. But If for some reason I want to become a bridge engineer I will definitely have the advantage because Nancy has taught me a lot about the design and reasons for a bridge looking a certain way.

I know that I like to do what I am supposed to do quickly and I end up being very bored after. So instead of doing just what I have to do to get an A I will go above and beyond because I have so much free time.
I don't really face any challenges at my internship. The only thing I can think of is when we were trying to calculate the arch length of a bridge but we didn't have the right equation or the right variables to solve it. Other than that, I haven't had any trouble with things.
I wrote comments for Joseph Johnson, Chris Clark, and Angel Tapia Their experiences and mine are very different, Chris' and Angel's are more physical labor while Joe's works more indoors like mine. Theirs are also more hands on while mine is more sitting at a desk and filing paper or typing something up. Not what I thought this internship would be at all. it wouldn't flip so screw it.
To be completely honest, no. As the days go on I realize that Civil Engineering is definitely not for me. I am not interested in the things that Nancy shows me or instructs me to do but this is a good experience because A: I am getting a good grasp of how real work is and B: I know that I will not be pursuing a career as a Civil Engineer. I am grateful though for how kind Nancy is and how much shes helping me with my personal project.
Everyone is really friendly here and everyone likes to talk to me and ask where I am from. When I am sitting in Nancy's cubicle I can't really hear anyone talking, and for some reason there i've only seen 15 people on our floor, most of the cubicles on this floor are empty. Even though I rarely see a lot of other people when I am on the 2nd floor, everyone who passes by smiles and says hi, or stops to talk to me.
For whatever reason we need to post sounds from our internship ![]()

I was originally going to make a 3D model of the bridge Nancy is currently working on but that project in the end wouldn't benefit her or the company so I had to switch. I decided on another project that has a lot to do with Nancy's line of work. Last week we visited Gilman bridge where the last 4th of it is being built and I got to stand on it and see what the inside of a bridge looks like. I took pictures of the inside like the manholes and where there is rebar and where there isn't. I will be comparing my pictures to the plans to make sure that they all match up and that they are all good to pour the concrete because if something is missing in the bridge or something is not supposed to be there it can be very bad in the long run.
Today I am going to be working on finding out if the plans for the genesee bridge matches the pictures I took when I went there so that they know for sure there will be no flaws in the bridge when they start pouring concrete. Nancy probably benefits the most from this Internship because I am her shadow and basically a personal assistant
